My bad, Bigfoot Brailey played on The Clones of Dr. Funkenstein, & not Tiki Fulwood. Bigfoot took over eventually after Tiki died in '78. So add Bigfoot to my favorite drummers list.

This older dude at work was always talking about Stevie Ray Vaughn. Finally he lent me a dvd 'Live At The El Mocambo' from 1983. I was floored. Only Hendrix had I seen or heard destroy a guitar into pieces in such a magnificent & beautiful fashion. If you ever guit (guit it? hA! sorry.) a jonesin' for some guitar then check the technique on that video.

Being a drummer & a fan of drums myself, I thought I would tell you of some of my most favorite drummers especially since only about 4 of my probably top 12 made your list.
Those 4 are the greats Ginger Baker, Zig Modeliste, Clyde Stubblefield and Jabo Starks.

Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix Experience) - This guy really always blows my mind. I guess my favorite album with him on it is Axis: Bold As Love. The powerful song 'Spanish Castle Magic' is a great example.

Max Roach - The father of jazz drumming who always remained progessive and creative. His M'Boom all-percussion record. Max Roach & His Chorus & Orchestra's It's Time. Drums Unlimited. Percussion Bittersweet. Freedom Now Suite. All of those are incredibe & unique. Oh yeah, did I mention he plays some on Miles Davis' Birth of the Cool album?

Pete De Freitas (original drummer for Echo & The Bunnymen) - The album Heaven Up Here is awesome & even better than the sum of its parts is Pete's drums. Died at a young age in 1989.

Tiki Fulwood (Funkadelic & Parliament) - America Eats Its Young is an unstoppable album. Ditto for The Clones of Dr. Funkenstein, Standing on the Verge of Getting It On as well as Lets Take it To The Stage.

Elvin Jones - Worked with Coltrane and many others as well as great solo stuff like this Time Capsule record.

Alex Van Halen - No matter how stupid it may seem to be to listen to Van Halen, the sounds of Alex's drums are very unique. Damn, time to blast the 1984 record. 'I'll Wait' & 'Hot For Teacher' are 2 tour-de-force-de-Alex's.

Cindy Blackman - not because of her touring with Lenny Kravitz but her solo work. The album called Telepathy is a fine example.

Steve Garner (of Manzel) - the songs 'Space Funk', Midnight Theme' and 'Sugar Dreams' have drums that could easily tear through the fabric of any cosmos.

I also have to give a special nod to Bill Berry. I never listened to anything R.E.M. did after the Out Of Time album. I am not sure when he actually quit the band. All I know is he played fast as hell on the Chronic Town EP and that the Document album is one I can never escape.

rodan's drummer was actually Kevin Coultas, who went on to play much mellower stuff with Sonora Pine and Rachel's, among others.

oddly enough, tina weymouth didn't actually play a lot of that funky stuff from "remain in light" on...byrne was always gathering hired guns to get the sound he wanted. he even famously made tina re-audition for the band after they got signed to sire records. still, i think her work in tom tom club proves she's got skills.
